If you want a garden chock-a-block full of flowers this summer, May is your time to start seed sowing. It might feel like the beginning of summer, but it's actually our last opportunity to start sowing flowers for this season.
There are so many gorgeous varieties you can start off in pots either outside or on a windowsill, greenhouse or in a polytunnel. Towards the end of the month, the soil has warmed enough for you to sow directly into it - just remember to keep the soil well-watered if we have a dry spell.
Here's a few ideas for what you can sow in May, broken down into what to sow undercover (on a windowsill or in a greenhouse) and what to sow outside.
What to sow undercover - May
Zinnia
Sunflower
Snapdragon
Nicotiana
Strawflower
Acroclinium
Statice
Ageratum
Amaranth
Cosmos
What to sow undercover or outside - May

Calendula
Nigella
Poppies
Ammi majus
Ammi visnaga
