Artichoke 'Tavor'
Artichoke 'Tavor'
Tavor is an impressive, first year fruiting artichoke. If you struggle to get your artichokes to overwinter well (a common problem for those growing on heavier soils) then try sowing this variety as an annual each year. The artichoke heads are a little smaller than what you'd see in a market stall in the Med but they are produced bountifully and they taste great.
Artichokes make a very striking addition to any garden (productive or otherwise) with their statuesque, glaucous green foliage. Their great big violet flowers make great forage for pollinators later in the year.
